Annual Conference

The CCCA held its Annual Conference in Vancouver from August 12 to 14, 2012, in conjunction with the CBA's Canadian Legal Conference. The event was a great success! Delegates had the option of choosing between 13 accredited professional development sessions presented by panelists featuring subject experts from across North America. Panel topics, presentations and papers are listed below.

To thank these accomplished panelists and keynotes for sharing their insight and advice with our members, the CCCA made a donation to The BC Centre for Elder Advocacy and Support (BCCEAS) on behalf of our speakers. BCCEAS is committed to

  • Protecting the legal rights of older adults;
  • Increasing access to justice for older adults;
  • Informing the public about elder abuse; and
  • Providing supportive programs for older adults who have been abused.
The centre’s Executive Director, Martha Jane Lewis, was on-hand at the CCCA plenary on August 14 to accept the donation and mingle with members.

The CCCA Lunch on August 13, sponsored by Lex Mundi, was another highlight, as Paul Lippe, CEO of OnRamp Systems gave a dynamic talk on content and resource sharing as the way of the future among the in-house community.

On August 14, the CCCA held its plenary The 2012 Compensation and Career Survey: We Know the Statistics, Now What?, during which our 2012 Compensation and Career Survey, sponsored by The Counsel Network, was released. Access the survey here. The plenary also featured personal brand expert Paul Copcutt of Squarepeg Solutions. He and our other panelists looked at how personal and professional brand can increase confidence and optimism regarding your professional future.

Other conference highlights included the Opening Plenary featuring keynote speaker Jimmy Wales, the Opening Night festivities at Grouse Mountain, and another plenary featuring keynote speaker Alison Redford.

Lastly, all conference delegates had time to relax and unwind while enjoying traditional west coast entertainment and hospitality each evening. The Monday Night Concert on August 13 was a particularly exciting event, showcasing the talents of legendary Canadian rocker Randy Bachman.

The CCCA would like to thank the city of Vancouver for such a warm welcome, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2013 Canadian Legal Conference and CCCA Annual Conference in Saskatoon!

Thank you to our Annual Conference Sponsors!
